Bordet New Hospital - Competition

The choice of location for the Bordet Hospital, which specialises in cancer treatment, close to the Erasmus Hospital in Anderlecht stems from the desire to bring together a number of common services as a means of saving costs. However, the client also wanted this renowned institution to retain a distinct image that reflected its efficiency and technical excellence. The architects were also guided by the study of specific visitor, patient and staff flows in creating a complex that includes in the elliptically shaped main wing, an entrance on three levels serving as access within the building as well as to the neighbouring hospital and medical and technical services. The design sought to depart from the usual language of hospital construction and create an optimistic image expressing technical excellence and efficiency.
